Wash bowls / lavabos / sinks from river stone and petrified wood (fossils)

Every wash basin from river stone or petrified wood is unique in shape, color, structure and dimensions. This gives the bathroom a natural and exclusive look.

Due to its natural character, it is of course not possible to make the same two wash bowls. Often it is possible to buy two similar wash bowls as a washbasin can be made from the two halves of a boulder and / or by wash bowls made from the same trunk.

River stones are large boulders that are dug out in valleys and riverbeds. These stones are naturally formed by nature's many years of operation. The round, smooth shape is the result of the erosion of groundwater and flowing river water for many years.

These stones are mainly mined in the south-center of the Indonesian island of Java.

Petrified wood is in fact pieces of tree, often the trunks that have been buried underground. This is usually the case due to the action of the volcanoes. As a result, these tree stumps were buried underground and under large amounts of volcanic ash. The rotting of the wood under the ground is greatly delayed since almost no oxygen could reach it. The volcanic ash contains various substances, mainly minerals, that dissolve in the seeping groundwater and so can soak the wood. These minerals slowly weave into the cavities of the wood that decays slowly. Thanks to this long-term effect, a new rock is created in which the shape of the wood is copied, as it were, in the stone.

The river stones must first be cut in the middle in two roughly equal parts.

Petrified wood is dug up and arrives in pieces from 60 cm to about one meter long. The length is determined by the forces of nature that have, as it were, cracked the tribe over the years. These stumps are sawn into slices.
